Placement Exams
Student success
is the focus of GMC Valdosta and the placement exam is a tool designed to allow
advisors to capture an accurate idea of where students should begin their
careers in order to be successful.
Placement examinations in reading, English and math skills allow the advisors
to best advise students into the classes where they can build the skills that
will ensure a successful academic career. Placement examination schedules are
available through the admissions office, and can be scheduled by calling (229) 375-5650.
Students are permitted to take each section of the placement exam only once.
Placement exams are offered for to any student who has either not opted to take the
SAT or ACT or who have not acquired the minimum score necessary for exemption.
The Reading Skills Placement Exam is not necessary for entering freshmen who have
an SAT Verbal score of 450 oran ACT English score of 18.
The GMC Writing Skills Placement Exam is not necessary for entering freshmen who have
an SAT Verbal score of 450 or ACT English score of 18.
The GMC Mathematics Placement Exam is not necessary for all entering freshmen having an
SAT math score of 450 or an ACT math score of 18.
Areas of deficiency are identified by these scores students achieve on the Placement Exam. Students
who place in Learning Support Services courses must earn a passing grade in
each course and must pass a comprehensive exam before enrolling in credit
courses in that subject area. GMC will accept official SAT or ACT test results
for placement testing decisions unless the test results are over five years
old.
