Prep School

GMC Prep football players Andreus Warthen (11th grade) ad Taylor Payne (10th grade) attended Schuman’s National Underclassman Combine (NUC) in Savannah, GA on February 19.  This event, with more than 85 athletes attending, was one of many across the nation designed to identify top freshmen, sophomore and junior athletes.  The combine tested skills in the 40 Yard Dash, Shuttle Run, Vertical Jump, Broad Jump, and Bench Press.

Taylor Payne’s stats:  40 Yard Dash – 4.78; Broad Jump – 9’3”; Vertical Jump – 31.5”; Shuttle Run – 4.45; Bench Press – 155 lbs, 20 times.  Taylor was named the event’s overall MVP and Best Running Back.

Andreus Warthen’s stats:  40 Yard Dash – 4.61; Broad Jump – 9’4”; Vertical Jump – 30”; Shuttle Run – 4.30; Bench Press – 185 lbs, 5 times.

Both athletes have been invited to participate in the Southeastern Top 100 Combine, an NUC event for the top performers from the regional combines, to be held March 5-6, in Atlanta, Ga.

GMC Prep Head Football Coach Brad Owens said, “Getting this kind of exposure is fantastic for the two young men and great for GMC Prep. They have worked very hard in the weight room and on the field and will be two of the pillars of our team next year. Coach Marlow Warthen and Andre Warthen have both spent a lot of extra time with these two as well and made sure that they got a chance to go to this combine. Overall this is just a great opportunity for both of them.”

Schuman's National Underclassmen Combine (NUC) is the longest running underclassmen event and the most respected combine and football camp in the country. Founded in 2005, NUC was formed to create a focused environment that allows freshmen, sophomores and juniors to showcase their skills and talents for college recruiters and recruiting organizations, giving each student-athlete ample opportunity to get recruited throughout his high school career, not just the spring before his senior year.  Since its inception, more than 50,000 athletes have come through NUC events and more than 2,000 athletes have received Division-I scholarships after first attending an NUC event.

NUC is run by David Schuman and is coached by his veteran coaching staff, along with top high school football coaches from all across the country, as well as staff from Schuman's Speed Center & Schuman's Elite Training, where more than 10,000 athletes nationwide train and is widely recognized as the authority on speed and agility.
