Character Word of the Week Program

Ethics in the Classroom Each week during the academic year, the Dean of Students prepares a values based Word-of-the-Week study guide. The study guide is posted on the Georgia Military College (GMC) web page and is emailed to everyone in the college. At the Milledgeville Campus, the study guide is published weekly in local newspapers and broadcast on local radio stations. GMC's Distant Learning Centers have adapted the Word-of-the-Week for use as a Word-of-the-Month.

GMC junior college faculty members and middle school and high school teachers are expected to introduce each Word-of-the-Week (Month) to their students and find opportunities to integrate discussion of the “Word” into classroom sessions and activities.

The purpose of the program is to teach the “language of ethics” one virtue, value, or moral concept at a time so that students will develop a common understanding of terms, concepts, and ideas. This enables members of the GMC community to carry on meaningful conversations about the ethical and moral issues being debated within our communities and nation. As well, the GMC Word-of-the-Week program serves to keep in the forefront of each student’s thoughts the foundational idea that Character is paramount and Duty, Honor, and Country are values worth living.
