National Honor Society
The National Honor Society chapter of Georgia Military
Prep School is a duly chartered and affiliated chapter of this prestigious national organization.
Membership is open to those students who meet the required standards in four areas of
evaluation: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Student in the 10th,
11th, or 12th grades are eligible for membership. [Note:
10th graders must have completed one semester of study.] For the scholarship
criterion, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 90.00. Those students who meet this criterion are
invited to complete a Student Activity Information Form that provides the principal-appointed
Faculty Council with information regarding the candidate’s leadership and service.
A written history of leadership experiences and participation in school or
community service is also required.
Following notification, a formal induction
ceremony is held at the school to recognize all the newly selected members.
Once inducted, new members are required to maintain the same level of
performance (or better) in all four criteria that led to their
selection. This obligation includes regular attendance at chapter meetings
held monthly during the school year, and participation in the chapter service project(s).
Membership in the Georgia Military
Prep School charter of the National Honor Society is both an honor and an
opportunity for service. In recent years, the chapter has participated in
tutoring of middle school students, advocating a drug-free life for Red Ribbon
Week, helping to run local elementary school field days, a canned food drive
for the holidays, and much more. In addition, the chapter strives to find
unique ideas for fundraising, such as the 2008 Guitar Hero competition.
Activities for each year are determined by the officers and voted on by the
chapter.
In addition to the local activities, GMC’s chapter is active on the state level,
as well. GMC has had a student officer on the state board of GA NHS since 2005. These
officers plan and run the state convention held every spring on Jekyll
Island. GMC sends student delegates to the state convention each year for a weekend
full of fellowship, learning, and
growth.
