Softball

GMC Prep Softball Softball began as a slow pitch sport at GMC in 1983 with Nancy Kennedy as the coach. In 1984 Peggy Couey took over the sport and was the head coach for two years and had some of the early success in the sport. In 1986 Garry Couch took over as the head coach and took the softball team to 11 playoff appearances and one state runner up in 1989. In 1999 GMC softball became the first team south of I-20 in GHSA to play fast pitch softball. For four years the softball team competed in a AA region where they finished third in the region three out of four years. In 2001 the softball team moved into its first Class A region in fast pitch and since then they have won six consecutive region championships and have been in the Elite 8 five out of those six years, and have placed in the top five in the state four of those years.
