Dual Enrollment/ACCEL

Georgia Military College recognizes the need to provide academically talented high school students with opportunities for acceleration of their formal academic programs. This recognition has led to the development of two organized programs: (1) a joint/dual enrollment program in which the student, while continuing his/her enrollment in high school as a junior or senior, enrolls in courses for college credit; and (2) an early admission program in which the student enrolls as a full-time student following completion of the junior year in high school. Minimum admission standards for both the joint/dual enrollment and early admission programs are listed in the following sections.

 

1.   A $35 non-refundable application fee.

2.  A properly completed official application form.

3.  Exemption of all LS requirements by:

A. Submission of official SAT/ACT scores meeting the following:

  • SAT Critical Reading score of 510 or greater OR ACT Reading score of 23 or greater
  • SAT Essay score of 560 or greater OR SAT Essay score of 500 or greater AND SAT Critical Reading score of 510 or greater, OR ACT English score of 24 or greater, OR ACT Reading score of 23 or greater AND ACT English score of 22  or greater
  • SAT Math score of 450 or greater OR ACT Math score of 18 or greater

B. Exemption of all LS requirements demonstrated by COMPASS Placement Test results utilizing Georgia Military College criteria for LS requirement exemption. The COMPASS Placement Test may be completed one time for the purpose of demonstrating exemption of LS requirements.  COMPASS Placement testing can be scheduled after receipt of the official high school transcript reflecting the cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in courses taken from the Required High School Curriculum units.

 

4. Minimum cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in courses taken from the Required High School Curriculum units.

5. Written recommendation of high school principal or counselor.


6. Written consent of parent or guardian (if the student is a minor).

Freshman seeking admission to a USG institution can expect that the college credit earned at a COC-accredited institution prior to high school graduation will be considered as transfer credit if the prospective student meets the USG institution's regular admission requirements.

Joint Enrollment of Home-Schooled Students

Home-schooled students wishing to participate in the joint enrollment program must submit official documentation indicating compliance with the following criteria:


1.   A $35 non-refundable application fee

2.  A properly completed official application form

3.  Exemption of all LS requirements.


A. Submission of official SAT/ACT scores meeting the following:

 

  • SAT Critical Reading score of 510 or greater OR ACT Reading score of 23  or greater
  • SAT Essay score of 560 or greater OR SAT Essay score of 500 or greater AND SAT Critical Reading score of 510 or greater, OR ACT English score of 24 or greater, OR ACT Reading score of 23 or greater AND ACT English score of 22 or greater
  • SAT Math score of 450 or greater OR ACT Math score of 18 or greater

4.    A list of courses completed

5.    A bibliography of textbooks and/or assigned readings used

6.    A writing sample

7.    Written consent of the parent/guardian.

8.    Receive approval from the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty.
