Tutoring


Mission:
The mission of the GMC Tutoring Center is to serve as a center for learning assistance, providing a support structure that allows students to gain self-confidence and independence in their academic work. The ultimate purpose of tutoring is to create independent learners.

GMC offers Fee tutoring to all of its students at all campuses.  Additionally, students may access professional tutoring 24/7 by phone or internet through their Moodle login. 

Hours:

Tutor schedules vary each quarter. Tutors are students who have already completed their lower level courses at GMC, and are very familiar with the information being covered in these courses.

  • Augusta: Tutor schedules vary each quarter, but the Student Resource Center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday throughThursday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Tutors are students who have already completed their lower level courses at GMC, and are very familiar with the information being covered in these courses.

     

  • Columbus :Face-to-face tutoring hours vary each quarter, but the Learning Center is open both day and evening hours fall, winter, spring, and summer quarters.
    At The Learning Center, when tutors are on duty, you can receive tutoring in subjects ranging from English to writing, to biology. Most of our tutors have Bachelor’s degrees, and most have years of experience working in their respective professional fields

  • Fairburn: Hours for both labs vary each quarter with current hours posted on the lab door.
     
    The Math Lab provides tutoring for all LSS math courses and college algebra. For upper level courses, check with a tutor or contact Prof. Washington hwashing@gmc.cc.ga.us.The Learning/Writing Lab provides tutoring for many disciplines including English, history, political science, Spanish, writing, and biology.  In the Learning/Writing Lab, you have access to computers for internet research and word processing.   • Milledgeville:Milledgeville Tutoring Is Closed ONLY during School Holidays and  Breaks!

    Becoming a GMC Milledgeville Tutor:
    General Qualifications:
    Up-to-Date college transcript
    Interview with Tutoring Coordinator
    2 recommendations from teachers
    Complete GMC personnel packet (includes background check)
    Agree to attend Tutoring Meetings
    Commit for 1 Quarter
    Pay Rate /Schedule: will be discussed at interview

At the Tutoring Center, you have access to computers with internet acces and Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
